Today I got to spend another 6 wonderful hours working at Thompson High School preparing for their upcoming production of “Frozen”!

When I told my friends and family I was taking this internship, I got a lot of questions and laughs because I always swore off youth theatre. I was never a girl who loved to babysit or play with kids, I like the quiet and having alone time. But over the last few months, I’ve fallen in love with these kids and this opportunity.

When I was 18, I felt like the world had given up on theatre. It felt like most of the people in the drama club had joined because I begged them. I had big dreams of going to theatre competitions and doing a musical. I directed, designed, produced, performed, and choreographed my way through high school, clawing at any chance I could to do theatre. I would’ve given anything for someone older to work for even just 6 hours to help make those shows happen.

While refocusing the lighting plot in a High School auditorium seems like nothing to most people, it would’ve meant everything to me 5 years ago. And I hope that in another five years, another “too loud” and “too passionate” student comes along with big dreams of what High School theatre could be.

Come see “Frozen” next week at THS, April 23rd-25th, to see all the incredible things these kids are capable of! 🩵❄️
